FESTIVALS: OFFICIAL LATINO SHORT FILM FEST

LATIN HORROR & Official Latino Join Forces: Showcase Genre
Official Latino Film Festival

It's been some time since we had the opportunity to showcase horror films in New York City as apart of a full festival since the New York International Latino Film Festival folded back in 2013, leaving a large vacuum not only for Latino filmmakers but also for those making genre films. Fortunately for us, another festival has stepped in to close the gap and represent this sector, and dedicated an entire block to horror films made by U.S. Latinos—MIEDO Latino!

Festival Founder, Danny Hastings
Founder, Danny Hastings

The Official Latino Short Film Festival is the brain-trust of photographer and filmmaker Danny Hastings, who's better known for his content creation work that includes a large body of photographs of A-list celebrities, as well as music videos for some of pop culture's most well-known scions via his production shingle Atomicus Films.

Hastings founded the festival in 2015 as a means of "Empowering the American Latino filmmaker and actor" in the United States, which is often overlooked by mainstream festivals. This year’s theme is “Latino Unity” - La Unidad Mueve Montañas (Unity moves mountains). Once he added horror films into the mix -- we were all in -- and knew we'd be a part of that worthwhile mission!

LATIN HORROR is horrified (and that's a good thing) to join forces with Hastings and his team in continuing to expand the boundaries of this Latino film revolution as we move forward in carving out the trail we blazed for Latino filmmakers working within horror, the macabre, and Gothic arts eight years ago.
