ON THE HORRIZON: 'OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL'
Sam Raimi kicks off the buzz machine at SDCC 2012

The story prequel of how small-time magician Oscar Diggs transformed himself into the great and powerful Wizard and became the ruler of the fantastical Land of Oz.

Oz The Great And Powerful - SDCC 2012
Sam Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL begins long before Dorothy clicked her ruby red heels or even realized she wasn't in Kansas anymore. And so does what is the first of a long and well-orchestrated Disney publicity swell leading up to the March 8, 2013 release of this epic and visually stunning film. Raimi provided the first looksies behind the curtain at SDCC this past week with a trailer that doesn't disappoint and a poster to match.
Raimi first made a name for himself with the 1978 horror classic The Evil Dead. He now delves into the realm of fantasy with a revisitation of the much beloved 1939 family adventure The Wizard of Oz, which transformed Judy Garland from a talented child actor into an American icon.

The cast for the current film work includes James Franco in the titular role, as well as Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz. The film is adapted from L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and will be released in traditional 2D, and also in the Disney Digital 3D, RealD-3D and IMAX 3D formats.
