Apple released a short film directed by Japanese Horror icon Takashi Miike. The 19 minute ‘Midnight’ is based on a magna by legendary Osamu Tezuka. The film is Apple’s way of promoting iPhone 15 Pro, especially it’s Action mode feature.
Takashi Miike made a statement to The Hollywood Reporter about taking on the project. “Mr. Tezuka is something of a god among manga artists so it was an honor to take on the challenge of expressing his work using only iPhone.” Miike also talked about the benefits of using the iPhone feature Action mode. The feature “accurately captures the facial expressions of subjects in a scene in a dynamic way, while reflecting their emotions and thoughts.” His final thoughts were about the capabilities of Apple’s Cinematic mode, “I was even more impressed by the ability to adjust the focus after shooting. You can focus on whatever you want, whenever you want. I hope that game-changing features like this that are impossible with regular photography equipment will be added more and more, and that it will break the conventional thinking of filmmakers.”
