For Latin Horror Heritage Month (yes, we’ve made it a thing), LATIN HORROR has decided to feature projects by its own team, who you mostly know as the dedicated ghouls and witches who toil behind the scenes putting the spotlight on the worthy genre work of others. We kick off the series by showcasing the work of LATIN HORROR’s managing editor, Christian Alexander Morán: ‘Lets Play Dead Girl,’ as writer/director. This also represents the exclusive public/online premiere of the film on Youtube, closing out its long and distinguished film festival run!
Let’s Play Dead Girl (2016 ) is an uber awarding-winning short thriller that has won BEST PICTURE (MFSPFF), BEST FILM (GFF), BEST HORROR FILM (OLSFF), BEST HORROR/SCIENCE FICTION (RMFF), BEST NJ DRAMA (HOYSFF), AUDIENCE (OLSFF), DISTINCTION (CSFF), BEST DIRECTOR (MFSPFF), BEST DIRECTOR-HORROR (BTSFF), as well as a BEST SCREENPLAY nod (NJHCFF) during its film festival run. Let’s Play Dead Girl ammassed an impressive 18 Awards, 34 Nominations and 23 Official Selections.
The movie went on to be picked-up by Hewes Pictures for distribution and aired on the prestigious ShortsTV network, with an eventual streaming queue on Amazon Prime Video.
The film is inspired by the fact-based nearly-fatal “Slender Man stabbing” (19 stab wounds to an artery of the heart, diaphragm, liver, and stomach) that took place in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and captured the nation’s attention and spawned a fever-pitch cult following. In Morán’s film, the 2014 incident is reimagined as cautionary tale of two friends, Josephine (Yessenia Rivas) and Juda (Yeena Sung), who become obsessed by an internet meme called Alto (Tomas Bergland). Their obsession turns deadly when they devise an elaborate plan to sacrifice one of their own friends, Consuelo (Laura Guzman), in a bloody game of Let’s Play Dead Girl.
What exactly about this story makes your skin crawl? The girls are only 12 years-old.
