A narco kingpin escapes from a high-security Mexican prison with his son and finds refuge at a remote drug rehab facility located on the U.S. side of the border where they encounter deadly mutant zombie.

Amazon Studios has released the trailer for action-horror series S.O.Z: Soldiers or Zombies (originally titled ‘S.O.Z: Soldados o Zombies’). [su_highlight background=”#ccff00″] The 8 episode series premieres TODAY (August 6th) [/su_highlight] on Amazon Prime Video. No doubt the series will will draw some knee-jerk comparisons to The Walking Dead, but this is another beast altogether.

The premise for the bilingual language (Spanish-English) series is a simple one: To avoid extradition, the charismatic and unpredictable drug lord Alonso Marroquín (Sergio Peris-Mencheta), escapes prison in Mexico to hide in the middle of the desert. While on the other side of the border, a United States Army experiment with pigs in a military base, goes wrong and the Mexican police unit going after Marroquín gets infected, transforming into a new breed of zombies with special abilities. The army and this new species converge in Marroquín’s hideout, where the battle for survival begins.

SOZ is directed by Rigoberto Castañeda, and showcases the talents of Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adria Morales, Toby Schmitz, Steve Wilcox, James Moses Black, Jorge A. Jiménez, and Vico Ortíz, among many others. Nico Entel and Miguel Tejada-Flores are the production’s co-creators. Entel is the series’ showruner. Series producing duties were also shared by Andrés Calderón, Juan Uruchurtu, and María José Gómez. Tejada also holds the mantle of Head Writer.

Given the series’ zero sum loyalty title, I think it was former President Bush who once famously said: “You are either with us, or with the Zombies.”  Peep the trailer below, and poster after the wide jump.
