Black Mandela has released the English-language trailer and poster for the sci-fi film “THE EYE AND THE WALL”, written and directed by Javier Del Cid, and co-written by Manuel Amaya

I must say that I have not been this impressed by the concept and visual aesthetics of a Latin-themed science fiction movie since Alex Rivera‘s Sleep Dealer — and that’s saying something since Rivera’s ground-breaking film was release back in 2008. I think the core topic of this film will have many considering the current vast and tragic violence taking place around the globe against humanity by entrenched powers and corrupt self-serving governments, but which has mostly been ignored in the Latin American hemisphere.

The Guatemalan produced dystopian adventure has racked up an impressive cache of awards during its festival run since 2021: “Audience Award” at MACABRO FILM FEST; “Award Fantlatam” at CINEFANTASY; “Best Ibero-American Film” and “Best Screenplay” at SANTIAGO HORROR FILM FEST; “Best Fiction Film” at HISTERIA FILM FEST; “Honorable Mention for Production Design” at FIXION FEST; “Honorable Mention for the Creation of the Universe” at Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre; “Best Fiction Film” at BLOODSTAINED; and “Best International Feature Film” at PANAMA HFF.

The film’s premise: Latin America, late 2030s. The city of Gabhán has fallen under an oppressive and totalitarian government, surrounded by a wall that citizens cannot cross and within which they live in total poverty. The young Alba is part of a clandestine group that provides health care, food and water to those most in need. Lucre tries to convince Alba to go with a group of smugglers who are taking people to the other side of the wall. Unexpectedly, Alba embarks on a journey across the border that will change her life.

The key cast includes: Juan Pablo OlyslagerÁlvaro SagoneRoberto Díaz GomarAlexander AlzateCecilia Porras, and Yolanda Coronado.

Looking forward to seeing this one (although I would prefer to watch it in its native language and subtitles). Peep the trailer and poster below —
