Focus Feature dropped the first trailer for ‘The Dead Don’t Die‘. A horror-comedy directed by Jim Jarmusch and starring Adam Driver, Bill Murray, Selena Gomez, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Austin Butler, RZA, Tilda Swinton, Tom Waits, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez and Carol Kane.

The Dead Don’t Die (2019)
The humor is very offbeat and it has that old school zombie movie feel of Romero or Bill Hinzman’s Flesh Eater. The line “they gravitate towards things they did when they were alive” reminds me of ‘Dawn of the Dead‘ (1978) as Stephen says “Some kind of instinct. Memory of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives.” It’s Romero’s social commentary to consumerism in America at the time.

The Dead Don’t Die (2019)
I don’t specifically love Jim Jarmusch films but I really do love his ‘Dead Man‘ (1995). Which is my favorite western. It stars a young Johnny Depp as William Blake, a banker on the run that meets Nobody (Gary Farmer), a Native Indian that takes him on a journey to the spirit world. Watching that film was like taking an acid drop, that’s how impressionable the film was to me. I wanted to make films like this in my teens. I even remember going to the old Virgin Records in Time Square and purchasing the VHS before the street date for $100 bucks because I needed to be the first person to own it. So because of this I’ll give ‘The Dead Don’t Die‘ a chance.
The Dead Don’t Die hits theaters on June 14, 2019.
